New-York, April 10, 1854.
Dear Sir:
The Editors of The Independent are desirous of obtaining some information of the number of sermons preached in Massachusetts, on or near the day of the State Fast, reprobating the iniquity of extending Slavery to the Nebraska Territory, now free. Will you oblige us by giving the information in regard to your own town, in as brief terms as possible.
1. Your own sermon, the text and point raised.
2. What has been done by other ministers in your place, giving their names and denominations.
We think this information, when concentrated in a brief campass, will be a fitting sequence to the Great Memorial, and will deepen the impression of that important document.
We will take pleasure in sending you a copy of the paper in which this information shall be published.
Please address any answers you may make to this to
EDITORS OF THE INDEPENDENT,
